Several friends have already forwarded this New York Post article to me, but if you haven't seen it, its worth a read. I agree with the rabbi's idea of an armed congregation; the local police are not trained or capable of dealing with a terrorist attack on a synagogue. Notable quote from the article:

American Jews that are not into guns tend to be skittish about guns. I won't say what shul, won't say who, but I will say there are several Yidden in a Jewish shooting club that carry concealed at at least one Michigan shul. Wish I could take a picture - I'd love to send one to Concealed Carry Magazine. Except, of course, it's all concealed.
